He hasn't changed his cleats since December, and read until the end to find out why.
“I started to yell and I jumped with my team celebrating. I was so hyped." - Caleb

When it comes to 5v5 Soccer, there are hundreds of tournaments across the country, with thousands of teams playing any given year. Multiply that by the average roster size, and there are tens of thousands of players. Every one of those players has a story.
Caleb is one of those players. Caleb's team plays in 3-4 tournaments a year with 5v5 Soccer, and heartbreakingly lost a June tournament Championship to a very competitive team. Fast forward to New Year's Eve, and it's a rematch.
Three competitive games, and then into the championship. Guess who? It's the familiar foe. The game is back and forth, and at the final whistle, the score is tied.
Golden Goal Overtime. 3 minutes on the clock. Who will make the difference?
Caleb.
One minute goes by. Two minutes go by.
10 seconds left.
Caleb gets the ball on the right. First touch is good.
Maradona Turnaround the last defender. He smashes the ball into the far post. Goal.
GOLDEN GOAL CHAMPION!
This story will stay with Caleb for a lifetime. It's one of those moments the team still talks about today, months later.
We got a chance to connect with Caleb, his coach, and his parents to get a few insights into that moment.
Q: Caleb, take me back to the June loss to that team. 2nd place isn't bad. But how did it feel? I bet your team was bummed.
A: "Yes, it was a close one, but we lost in the penalty shootout. I was disappointed, but we played well."
Q: And how did you feel going into that next Championship game against them? The Rematch. Were you nervous?
A: "Yes, we played them in the tournament and lost to them already the game before. It was close, but since we lost [Group Stage Game 3] I was very nervous."
Q: Take me through the Golden Goal moment. The skill. The Finish. What do you remember? How did it feel? How did the team respond?
A: "I had new shoes on. We were in overtime. There were seconds left. I was passed the ball, took a touch, did a Maradona around the defender, and I just had the goalie left. I shot and I scored. I started to yell and I jumped with my team celebrating. I was so hyped."
And 5v5 Soccer Nation, let's be real. Behind every player, there is a village that makes it happen. And usually, it's the soccer moms who rule the world. So we asked mom the question: "How was Caleb after that? Excited? Proud? Describe his emotion.
A: "Caleb was so excited to win the tournament with his team. I am so proud of him! It’s awesome seeing the skills they work so hard on working on the field. They really played so well together throughout the tournament. He has been wearing those new shoes ever since! No matter how other games and tournaments turn out, this one will be one we never forget!"
The beauty of this story? There are tens of thousands of players across the country who have similar moments. As a community, that's what we are on a mission to provide. The excitement, the moments, the memories. Because those? Last a lifetime.
Thanks for staying with us, and helping build the story together.
